The Henry – around the clock comfort food 24hrs a day

The Henry at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas pitches itself as a “modern American eatery with casual upscale charm, The Henry is the round-the-clock spot for a unique twist on comfort food”. After eating here, from what I gather it’s a diner in a sharp suit with polished wooden topped tables, velvet green chairs, a gleaming chequered floor and green leather banquettes. And of course, the obligatory cluster of fruit machines that will lure you into the main casino!

They’re famed for the Short Rib Benedict (braised short ribs, soft poached eggs, hollandaise, hash brown). Also their Henry’s Big Brioche French Toast (maple syrup, fresh berries, whipped butter).

The ‘Short Rib Benedict’ comes with a slab of fork tender rib on a bed of crumbly hash brown in gravy, it’s topped with a pair nicely poached eggs too. I always have the hollandaise on the side though, as it’s generally not my bag. Being honest, it was a bit of a let down, the sauce was as robust as a puddle, the hash underdone and the short rib was just an uninspiring bland. It just needed a good lick of seasoning to bring it all together.

I wish I’d gone for the buttermilk flapjacks $14 (they definitely looked like pancakes to me) with crispy bacon and maple syrup. If they’d tasted an inch of how good they looked, I’d been a happy camper.

The berry smoothie was at $8 a pop was half a consolation as it did something to nourish our hungover souls.

The verdict:

When did I go? Jan 2016
The damage: Expect to pay $40-$45 (£30- £35)
The good: It was open 24hrs a day
The bad: Considering their signature dish was the Short Rib Benedict, I was irritated by how under-whelming it was. Come on guys buck up your ideas.
Rating: 2/5
Would I go again? Meh
